Class Ring Celebration, Day 111

This picture is not the clearest, but conditions were a bit suboptimal - the cafeteria at school. Tonight, the class of 2010 celebrated the receiving of their long-awaited class rings. This particular group of kids has been in school together since kindergarten. See the shorter guy in the middle? Back in April 2001, he was diagnosed with spinal cord cancer and was given 18-24 months max to live - by my calendar that was EIGHT YEARS AGO. There were several times we thought he would be lost, but each time he came back to us.

His oncologist back then prayed she would get to see him graduate from high school and I have a sneaky suspicion that that particular prayer will be answered.

You totally have me in tears here!! How awesome! Super fun shot of the kids. We don't do a class ring here...some can, but it certainly isn't something that everyone gets. None of my boys have ever had one...but I love the idea of it!

Hello Dot. Could you say more about class rings and what they are for? I've not come across them before.

The young people certainly look very cheerful!

Lucy, the class ring is a tradition, at least where I live, of the kids, just before going into their last year of high school (12th grade), they purchase a school ring. Back when I was in high school, there were no choices - it was only one style of ring with one particular gemstone. Now they can choose the style, color, and any gemstone they like. I will take a photograph of my daughter's ring and post here so please come back. I'll make it my photo of the day!
